Africa
The largest sculpture I’ve ever made.
With a weight of about 1.2 tons, a height of 3.10 meters and a length of 5.10 meters, this large elephant brings out all the beauty and grandeur of the largest terrestrial mammal, a gentle giant from which we humans should learn a lot.
This time the scrap metal used varies from the agricultural sector, to mechanics, from construction to carpentry, highlighted by the background of the savannah which is really spot on for the photo.
It took months and months of hard work and endless welding, but standing at that height above the completed sculpture was certainly an emotion and a great satisfaction that is difficult to describe.
I was prompted to create and choose the elephant as this year’s creation not only for the greatness that would surely stand out when the sculpture was finished but more than anything else because elephants, as Darwin said, are capable of crying, making friends and listening to humans, they have a brain similar to ours, capable of remembering complex social relationships and great emotions, they can feel terror, compassion, courage and protect each other.
Despite all this, evidently the elephants, which have been on our planet for five million years, do not arouse enough respect from us “little” men
